What is Emergency Disaster Services?
Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) is a program of The Salvation Army designed to meet human needs in response to disaster. Your local EDS serves El Paso County and the greater Colorado Springs community by offering direct support in times of crisis.
While every disaster is unique and creates its own special needs, the core of The Salvation Army's disaster program consists of several basic services such as food service and aid to survivors and first-responders. While these services address many of the typical needs of a disaster survivor, Salvation Army disaster relief is also flexible. Our services are adapted to the specific needs of individuals and communities and scalable according to the magnitude of the disaster.
Volunteer
EDS is powered by many capable, trained volunteers. We are looking for volunteers like you!!
- Volunteers do things such as serve hot meals and provide other aid to first responders and survivors, as well as provide a smiling face during a time of need. Opportunities are also available to help on our phone tree and kitchen team.
- Disasters can happen at any time. EDS volunteers should be prepared to be called upon at any time. Shifts are normally about 4-6 hours.
- Training will be provided to all EDS volunteers, so no experience is necessary. Volunteers are expected to participate in one training opportunity each month.
- EDS Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.
- All volunteers are required to complete a volunteer registration packet and pass a criminal background check.
Ready to volunteer? Complete our volunteer inquiry form and our volunteer office will connect with you to complete the registration packet.
